Chanel Nail Colour in 579 Paparazzi

Power Rangers by Teni
Inspired by the polish posts of the ofthecomely, when I saw a Chanel nail polish at Tkmaxx I jumped at the chance to try the formula. Granted Tkmaxx cosmetic products are often discontinued because they are allegedly way past their sell-by date. So, despite the £7.99 price tag, I was aware that the price may be indicative of an aging and perhaps now unusable formula.

Yet, upon opening the box (not testing it out just looking at the shade) Paparazzi looked like the perfect autumnal colour to soothe me back into polishing my nails on the regular without any pigment separation or dodginess to dissuade a purchase. Paparazzi looked bold enough for my wavering tastebuds but, not so outlandish to cause comments and conversations about whether or not I'm was about to be "paint the town red" - ahem

Paparazzi is a deep mauve with supper fine golden shimmers, a pretty shade that works nicely for a demure but romantic look on dark skin. The bottle is iconic of course with the Chanel logo but, I found the loose lid unhelpful to actually unscrewing the polish. It really is just a showpiece that allows you to control where the logo sits - which often gets messed up when the nail polish wand and lid are connected. Superficial I know, but it can be really annoying - so I can understand why a brand that is ultimately highly concerned with aesthetics would have the foresight to eradicate this nail polish pet peeve.
with and without flash
Now, I can't say much about how long-lasting the polish is as I haven't had this for a long time. Plus sometimes a gal washes dishes without gloves so chips happen but, I can say that it does dry quite fast and wears nice enough. The formula wasn't gloopy or streaky and the brush wasn't splayed or too thin (I prefer wider brushes because my nail beds are wide).

In terms of nail polishes - I have tried quite a few brands but I've never really ventured into higher-end polishes since I thought their polishes were marked up merely because of the name rather than any actual quality. However, upon trying my first Chanel polish I think designer brands may indeed have something more going for them besides branding. I mean, I do really love indie nail polish brands and I'll always favour brands that dedicate themselves to nail polish, making often new exciting colours with quirky names etc. so I can't see myself amassing an armful of Chanel, Dior or YSL polishes in a hurry but ...
... I may try a few more.

Have you tried any designer polishes lately?
What do you look for in a polish and or nail polish brand?

Your comments are always welcomed and appreciated!
