Royal "Push" Present: A Pink Diamond?

Since the birth of little Prince George there has been much speculation about what Kate's "push" present will be.  A "push" present, a gift from the father for his wife's endurance of labor, has become a requisite for most couples.  The royal couple is no exception.

It is known that William gave Kate a teddy bear from Harrod's after the birth of their son.  Its a sweet gesture but he is unlikely to get away with just the bear!  When Prince William was born Prince Charles gave Diana a gold medallion with "William" inscribed on it in his own handwriting and a gold charm in the shape of a "W".
It is said that William had initially thought of giving Kate a piece of jewelry from Diana's collection.  Kate already wears Diana's sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
Apparently William has decided to make the gift more personal.  Rumor has it that he is planning a gift of a pink diamond set in a brooch for Kate.  He has enlisted the help of the royal jewelers but he wants to have input in the design of the brooch.
Perhaps his inspiration for the gift came from a piece owned by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.  The Queen has one of the finest pink diamonds in the world which was given to her by Canadian geologist John Williamson upon her marriage to Prince Philip.  The 54.5 carat stone is set in a brooch and is one of the Queen's favorite pieces of jewelry.  It is thought that the pink diamond was the inspiration for the diamond in the series of Pink Panther films!

The brooch William designs will likely be a more modern setting that will suit Kate's style.  We can't wait to see the finished product!
